Ladies and Gentlemen;
Good evening all. I hope you have enjoyed the scrumptious dinner and entertainment so far.
It's now time to present the certificates to the inaugural batch of the MIM Certified Professional Intellectual Property Manager (MIM-CPIPM) Programme. There are 16 graduands from this first batch and we are definitely looking forward to graduating many more MIM Certified IP Managers this year.
The MIM-CPIPM was launched on 28 November 2007. MIM would like to thank Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp) especially YBhg Dato' Iskandar Mahmood, CEO of BiotechCorp for his vision in strengthening the valuation of biotechnology companies to build human capital expertise in intellectual property certification through this programme.
This partnership comes at an opportune time when the country is competing with others in the knowledge and innovation economy.
BiotechCorp is sponsoring a total of 60 participants to this MIM-CPIPM programme which will run for three intakes this year.
This initiative augurs well for the future of biotechnology companies in Malaysia of which the biotechnology industry has been earmarked as one of the emerging industries in the Ninth Malaysia Plan.
Tonight, I am also pleased to announce that this programme has received the endorsement of the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (myIPO) who has agreed to be the supporting organisation. MyIPO's support will definitely ensure the continued sustainability of this programme.
Besides biotechnology companies, other organisations which are knowledge intensive and intellectual assets driven will find this programme useful as it covers not only IP rights but also most importantly the strategic management of IP to gain profitability and maximum value generation from intangible assets - Intellectual Asset Management (IAM).
We thank all who are involved in this programme for their hindsight and forward vision in recognising the importance of IP management as a future discipline in this new knowledge economy.
Also, special thanks to Mr David Oh, the lead training facilitator and the MIM Team, for leading it so well.
All these promises a great future for IP management in Malaysia, which is still in its infancy stage compared to other countries.
Congratulations to the graduands of the first MIM-CPIPM programme! You are the pioneering batch of the first professional certification programme on IP management in Malaysia. We wish you well, and hope that you will actively contribute towards the development of the IP industries in Malaysia and continuously pursue excellence in your professional development.
